How to trim?

HOw do I trim my green foxtail? It Is coming back after a snail attack. However it is growing very well but stringily. I can't get either of my plants, a cardinal and the foxtail, to grow bushy. How do I do this?

Trim off the top portion and replant. The entire plant requires light or the bottom leaves will begin to fall off. Replant cutting close in a bunch, but not too close where the bottom portion can't receive light. Try staggering plantings as this may give the appearance of bushy plants.
