I can't tell for sure but I'm guessing the brown thing is where the mucous is coming from? If so, it could be a vermetid snail. They stay put and use the mucous net to catch particulate matter to eat.

If so, it's not really harmful, but they tend to stress out corals when their mucous is touching them....not intentionally, but just bumping into them. They also spread at a fairly decent pace. My personal take on them is that they are amazing creatures from the ocean that overcome insane odds to survive. I would not kill them off. Others would disagree.
