I have a stock topfin 10g goldfish starter and the 2 lights that come in the hood are about 6" long and I want to start getting into planted aquariums so all I have right now is some java moss and around 3/4" of tan gravel right now. How do I upgrade my lights without have to change my hood.

See if you can find some skinny compact flourescents for it. Try and get the ones as close to 6700K as you can get. OS.

With your relatively low light you can grow Anubias, Java fern, Java moss, Crypts. There are many. Just look online and look for low light plants. You can put some root tabs in the gravel to give it some nutrients for the plants to pick up. OS.

No you would not need CO2 for those plants.
