Is a common pleco good with a sand substrate?

It may look like they eat it. They will filter it out there guills. I have sand in all my tanks, have 2 tanks 3 plecos un each. Had them running for over a year.

No, they won't. Somehow this myth of plecos ingesting sand and getting ill/dying has taken off. There is no truth to it so don't worry.

Not to hijack this thread but I have the same question about goldfish and sand. I have heard they will swallow it

Sand is fair superior when it comes to goldfish. They might eat some but they will be able to pass it unlike gravel. Sand is also easier to keep clean.

I got myself a big bag of play said and clean/rinsed it real good it's in my tank now. I spent 5 bucks on that bag of sand until the 30 for half the amount.
