Is co2 really necessary for a moss carpet?

Hi there. This is my first post so forgive me if its a stupid question. Has anyone tried growing moss or any type of grass in their tropical tanks without co2? I am nervous about setting up a system and quite frankly don't want the fuss. Here is a photo of my tank. Mostly I have fake plants in the background and real in the front. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

You can do it, it would just be super slow.

Thanks man! I guess I could use liquid co2. Need to find out about what lighting to use. At the mo I have one flours aqua-glo T8.
