Is it safe to add prime directly to aquarium?

Title says it all. Is it safe to add seachem prime directly to an aquarium for its ammonia-diminishing properties? I was thinking maybe a half capful.

Read directions on bottle.
I believe you can overdose as much as 5 times.
A water change sounds in order also ?
