I currently have a 75 gallon DT with a 20 gallon sump. I will soon be switching to a 125 gallon tank with a 30 gallon sump. I had to replace my protein skimmer so I figured that I should buy the skimmer for the 125. Planning ahead. My concern is that I found a really good deal on an octopus skimmer for 250 gallons. Is it possible to have too much protein skimmer?

its impossible to over filter in anyones eyes, the cleaner the water the less aglae and the happier your fish, inverts and corals will be. if you want even go to a 200 gallon skimmer :)

Ok good. Now the next hurdle is to make it fit into my sump. I think I'm going to have to get creative with the design.

Ok. It fits into the new sump. It's skimming away. This thing rocks! It's making all kinds of nasty green goop. :)

the general rule is to purchase a skimmer rated for 1.5 to 2 times your water volume anyway. you chose well.
