Hi.

https://youtu.be/4p5c3BCZtdc

I placed this water tester in some tapwater (northwest England) which went through a Brita filter.

I believe that it measures pH, then electrical conductivity, then total dissolved solids in parts per million, then salt in parts per million. But when I switch from TDS to salt, the number does not change. I have tried many different water samples (and diet cola), and that number never changes.

Is this what one should expect?

Hi and welcome to the forum :)

Get a bottle of distilled water and test that. It should have a pH of 7.0, and 0 for everything else. If it shows salt or anything else in distilled water, the digital meter is not working correctly and should be replaced.

You can also contact your water supply company vie their website. Look for a water analysis report and check that. It should have pH, salt (sodium chloride but usually has sodium and chloride as separate readings).
