Thanks

( sorry about all the posts a lot happening with tank very exciting!!)

I tried rubbing it off and it does come off i don’t think a power head will get it off.

It does not feel slimy.

Also it is on my glass but does come off with the magnet cleaner

The sand looks quite normal. You may want to resize your photos to 800x600 or so and cave for the web for a faster download.

The algae (brown diatoms) will burn out but will probably be back every now and then. My latest bout is just about over and my sand is almost all white again.

I use the Salifert test kits. They are on the expensive side ($15 each kit) but the best I've found for Nitrite, Nitrate, Ca, Mg, Alk.

I agree it looks like normal diatoms.
I use several test kits. Aquarium Pharmaceuticals is what I mainly use. I use Salifert for my calcium testing.

yea thats normal for a tank that is 1 month old, i had the same experience. just give it a few weeks with weekly PWC and they will die off. if you rub it off it will just help spread it just let time run its course. your tank is cycling.
