Hi Everyone I did a little research online and saw that this was the friendliest and most helpful online community so I am hoping you can help me.
A few months ago I started a 10 gallon fresh water tank for my 6year old son. We did a fishless cycle . I check the water every few days and do PWC every week sometimes twice a week. My reading are always 0 for ammonia and 0 nitrite and about 10 for Nitrates. We have live java fern & java moss and some planted driftwood and cholla wood. We have slowly been stocking the tank for about a month and a half. Initially we started with one small red platy. Then added about 10 red cherry shrimp. Then after a few weeks the platy seemed lonely so I added two male endlers. Then about a week later 6 very small celestial pearl danios. Ive had the CPD for about a week now and haven't added anything since. I checked on AqAdvisior and this was all within acceptable limits for our filtration. In addition to our HOB filter and the three cartridges that it uses I also added that pricy poly filter stuff to ensure there is no metals (to keep my shrimp happy). I also use Prime as the conditioner. My Kh & Gh are both 8 (or 8drops on the liquid kit) and my Ph 8.2 (which I know is a little high but it never fluctuates).
So here is the problem...
A couple days ago I noticed my platy was just constantly going up & down the glass. Also he would shimmy a little. I thought he was just playing with the reflection but it was a new and odd behavior. Then I saw him rub on the rocks a few times. I wondered if the constant erratic movement was a way to get away from the endlers who are always trying to mate with him so I took him out and put him in Qt. He's still rubbing on the glass constantly. Today I watched the main tank and now I see one of the endlers flashing too. I am so upset.
What do I treat with? I know this isn't a high tech tank but I love the plants and my shrimp. I don't want to kill them. I can take out all the fish and treat them in Qt but some of my CPD are SO TINY I don't know what they can take as far as treatment. And I have NO CLUE what I am treating for. I don't see any ICH. I don't see velvet (although I am not sure exactly what I am looking for). The fish LOOK fine. Maybe gill flukes? But the fish most affected is hyperactive and doesn't seem to have trouble "breathing".
I hope someone has some useful advice.
On hand I have a bottle of Rid Ich Plus and a bottle of Mardel Maracide (I know this is an old product but its not expired and unopened).
Should I treat the one platy for ICH/velvet and see if it helps? And leave the others untreated in the main? That way I can get a better idea what I am dealing with?
Or should I get a treatment for flukes and start treating everyone ASAP?
Or should I move the endlers now to QT too since the one is itchy too?
If I treat everyone in the QT tank what about the main? Will the parasites die off if there is only shrimp in there?
Is there a good product that treats for "everything' since I don't have a clue what I am treating for?
I really appreciate any help you can offer.
