Recently I have noticed some brown strands coming out of my Java moss. I am concerned that it might be the dreaded BBA! One of the reasons why I don't think it is BBA is because it is growing on the underside of the Java moss (away from light). If it is the dreaded BBA then I want to take immediate action. I have never seen or heard of roots on java moss...Thanks for your help. (I will attach a picture)

Those are probably rhizoids. They are "root-like"structures that help more primitive plants like mosses attach themselves. While roots will uptake nutrients rhizoids do not as far as I know.

Cool! Does this mean the plant is doing well or is it just a normal occurrence?

They look exactly like what you said! The picture matches almost perfectly. Thank you so much!

Yah np. Mosses are cool. If you were to attach that strand to some driftwood or substrate it will probably anchor itself very quickly.
