Just wondering: privacy film on glass hood?

There's no actual reason to do it besides wasting money, but I'm just wondering what the effects would be. Glare off the hood? Less light for plants? Relief from too strong of lighting?

Perhaps if you wanted to reduce natural sunlight on one side or something? Say one side of a big tank is near a window and always getting algae.
