Ahhh those guys are both awesome!!! What size tank is required for bichirs? I've always been curious about those fellas


What kind of bichir? The senegals, like shown in the pic above, need only about 55 gallons as they generally don't get over 8". Other species will need over 250 gallons.
 
Dinosaur bichirs are the ones I've always loved, and are available at my lfs, so Dino bichirs I guess!

Ah yes the dinosaur bichir, this is a street name for the polypterus senegalus. Perfect beginner bichir! They're very active and have lots of personality and don't require the massive tanks others do!

Yeah at 2 foot long he really makes u nervous when cleaning the tank....I usually have a spotter to warn me when he sneaks up on me...lol....he has gotten more aggressive in his older age...or territorial should I say...
