I have a metal halide 150 watt 14k light. Right now I am cycling my tank but I was wondering how long I should have the light on for and what times are the best?

Thanks
Ryan

Do you have LR in the tank yuo are trying to get coraline going on? If not no light is really required for the cycle period. If so and 8 hour period would be more than enough. You do not want to provide too much light early on as this may only promote unwanted algea growth.

Phot-period during the cycle is not much of a concern. In fact, limiting it may help with algae and diatom blooms durning the cycle. A couple hours a day will be fine.

I agree also if you are just cycling you can help yourself out by only running them a few hrs a day. Cant wait to see your tank
