lighting for planted

I like the Finnex Ray 2 and Current TrueLumen Pro LED's if you like the LED's, they are for high light and would work well on a 10g IMO...maybe a bit overkill though as I am unsure...sorry that is all the help I can provide!
 
If you go with LEDs make sure that they are dimmable.

Personally, I would probably just get a cheap incandescent hood and put spiral CFL bulbs in at the max wattage that the hood is rated for (typically 15-20 watts). You could also do a couple of nice desk lamps at are adjustable.
 
In My Opinion. I agree that LEDs such as a Finnex Ray 2 would be excellent on a 10 gallon for high lighting.
 
Honestly, I don't understand the LED devotion that some people have. At this point, the only thing they really have over fluorescent technology is novelty and their usually slim appearance. The is especially true with a 10g. You can get more light for less money with T5HO, or similar-to-more light with a incandescent hood for a third of the cost.
