I currently have a Coralife 10,000K 120v 15w T8 bulb in my 45 gallon corner pentagon tank, I currently have 2 anubias plants in there and was informed that wasn't really enough light! I know the hood itself says its max is 17 watts, am I going to have to buy a different hood in order to be able to grow live plants in that tank?

I say give it a try. What plants are you wanting?
You may be surprised at what can grow under that light with a little plant food. I have a single T8 fixture on my 75 gallon and the plants are growing nicely with regular fertilization and daily Excel doses.

Your currently at 0.3 wpg which is very low. I do agree with blert; give it a try with low light plants. Don't be alarmed if you need to up your watts. Good luck!
