Assuming that you have a 30 gallon Breeder i would say that you have LOW LIGHT according to these charts. PAR vs Distance, T5, T12, PC - New Chart - The Planted Tank Forum I would leave the light on about 10 hours a day. If algae becomes a problem, then lower the photoperiod.
