Lights on the side?

I have a 37 gallon bow front with 8000k 17w T8 my hood doesn't have room for another light. Can mount lights to the side of an aquarium? Or any other ideas.

The only thing I can think of is ditch the light and top and buy smaller more powerful lights that will sit side by side. Assuming your trying to get more light for plants
