We're just starting to setup a saltwater tank. We got our live rock from a local store and we're curious about a couple of the critters we've found.

This thing retracts at night into a crevice in the rock. Some kind of coral?

Is this one of the 'bad' anemones?

We also got a bumble bee snail from the rock which I love. Hope the little fella makes it - so far so good and it's been almost a week.

Thanks for looking!

Thanks for your input..

Which one of them do you think looks like an aptasia? The top or the bottom one? (two seperate critters...)

I'm not sure about the top pic but the bottom one looks like a rock anemone. Not an apstasia but still considered a pest. Is it possible to get a pic of the other one from the top?

Thanks for all your suggestions so far...
Here's a pic of the top one from above...

Thought I'd post an update..

My husband is a member over at Reef Central and he asked about these critters there as well.

They too identified the bottom pic as a majano or majano-type pest.

The top pic is of a soft coral species.

Just thought I'd let ya know in case it ever pops up in your tanks.

I missed your update on this post. I'm still not sure what it is, perhaps a pachyclavularia sp. Looks cool. Congrats to you! :D

Nice LR for a LFS too. Agree with fluff. the bottom pic is a rock anemone and the top isn't an anemone either.
