I would really like to bring my nitrates down to slow down a brown algae problem I have been battling. Any ideas for low maintenance, low light plants that might do the trick. Thanks in advance for any help you could give.

Duck weed. Easiest plant in the book and absorbs any excess nutrients in the water including nitrates.

Java moss and fern, anubias nana, marimo moss, many varieties of darker green crypts, tropica fern. Oh- duckweed and water sprite.... Duckweed is so underrated that you get it for free a lot of places, but it works awesome when first starting a tank or rebalancing an over fertilized over planted pico.
