LR smell !!!

my LR arrived yesterday from LR.com. it is so smell. i can smell the rocks from the outside of the aquarium. it's even worst when i turn on the powerhead!
what should i do?
actually i ask this Q for my friend.

Give it some time and plenty of fresh air. You may also try adding some GAC to help.

Watch the amonia levels and if they get too high do a water change.

I used carbon in a quick filter when my dead shrimp were maximally stinky and it worked like a charm. So far I've seen (and smelled) 3 shrimp "melt" during cycling. :?


My goal is to be fully cycled (sand only) in order to add lr some time after feb 26.

I suspect the live rock isn't what smells, but rather some of the hitch hikers didn't make it and are rotting away.

Keep tabs on ammonia an nitrite and do water changes accordingly. Don't add any livestock until both levels are steady 0.0ppm for a week, and you start getting an increase in nitrates.

What does it smell like? Strong odor of ammonia or strong odor of the ocean?
