I'm trying to maintain pH of 8 in my 29 gallon tank, so I want to use crushed coral or limestone. My tap pH is around 6.4

How much of crushed coral do I get to keep ph of 8? I'm thinking about putting them in my filter system.
Will the crushed corals maintain pH of 8 forever? Or do I need to replace it?

What's the pH now? Are you keeping shell dwellers in there? FWIW, I never buffered my water for my mbuna or shellies. It's a bit of a pain, IMO, when doing water changes to match the hardness/pH when buffering. JMO

Now that I think about it, my tap water is 6.8 pH. I believe my java ferns are bringing it down to 6.4.

I'm keeping Figure 8 puffers and need to have optimal water for those guys. They live in brackish water if that makes a difference.
