My 29 gal aquarium has looked the same for roughly three years. And then, I joined this site. After seeing some of the beautiful work done here, I decided I needed to step up my game. First I purchased the Ecoxotic E-Series light (what a great product, BTW!), then I made some DIY root tabs to resuscitate my plants (thanks, Mebbid!). Next thing I knew, I was replacing my HOB filter (Penguin Biowheel) with an Aquaclear 50. The last step was buying a beautiful piece of driftwood off eBay. Tonight, I put it all together. I removed all of my plants, vacuumed the substrate within an inch of its life, and took all the dead parts off my plants. Here is the before and after shots:

As you can see, the Amazon swords need a lot of love, but with the light and the root tabs, they'll be back in no time.

Very nice! That's a big improvement :) glad the root tabs are working for you as well!
