Malawi's and Algae

Our cichlid tank has brown algae problems on teh sides and in the gravel.
We have 9 avg size fish (3-4 inches) and 1 Pleco (worthless). Any tips on how to control this nasty stuff?

PH - 8.4
No Ammonia, Nitrite or Nitrate
Temp 79 - steady
Lights - 12 hour timer
Filter - Eheim Pro

you might try cutting back the duration of your lights a bit...I can't leave mine on for more than about 10 hours without getting a lot of brown diatoms. also check that you are not overfeeding as this can further cause some complications. might want to go get a phosphate test kit as well since this seems to be one of the more common causes.
