Male or female Convict?

Any tricks on getting food to my pictus catfish? I feed them at night, about an hour or two after lights out..The convicts and dempsey steal the pellets before they can hit the bottom of the tank, no matter where I try to put them. I even tried bribing the convicts and dempsey with a small snack, while I dropped the pellets in the back corner of the tank.. One catfish got one pellet, only to have it snatched away by Guido.
