May seem stupid, but I'm curious.....

When I view my profile, I see this little green square next to my mini-statistics. When I hover over it with my cursor, it says, "bud29 hears surf in the shell." When I view other people's profiles I see that they have the same thing with different sayings. Some people have more squares than others. What are these squares and how do you get more? May seem stupid, but I am curious.

Carryover from the old reputation system. I don't think the 'Thanks' system contributes to it, but I may be wrong on that.
