I have two Hemicromis bimaculatus (jewel) , not a pair, in a 10 gallon tank.
What I think is a male, he becomes extremely red when introduced to another
same jewel, and after 20 min. of making nice and shimmying, he starts beating
on her and shreds her fins. I say I think "she" is female, by some blogger who
believes he can sex them. He pretty much was responsible for the demise of
another I tried. What can I do , in a too small of a tank to finally get a pair,
or is what he is doing normal and I should leave them together longer? I have
a plexiglass wall that I let them get acquainted for 48 hrs. before releasing
the "bully" that he is, yes he is a little larger.

2. This morning I found the front glass wall covered with microscopic white worms.

What?????

10 gallon tank is way too small for any cichlids. Cichlids are territorial and need rocks and caves and places to hide

the tiny white worms on your glass are probably planaria. They come from having too much waste in the substrate and from over feeding your fish. Gravel vac your substrate really good and do a water change. watch how much you are feeding your fish. They aren't dangerous to the fish but are unsightly

Thanks Q 84 I had a feeling that the vacuuming and water change
was needed. Lookin for a larger tank too!
