My new Juwel 180 Vision

Here i have my Juwel Vision 180 tank having previously had the octagon columnar tank which i succeeded in tetra and guppy breeding. What i would like to know is whether i should scrap artificial plants and try planted? Is it worth it? Advantages/Disadvantages?

Live plants oxygenate the water and can use up some nitrates. Only downside is they can be expensive, some need special substrates etc. They can also decay and cause ammonia to rise etc.

Personally I think the benefits outweigh the risks.

So your suggesting for me to change this to a planted tank? If so, how do I go about that? With live fish and cycling complete. What shall I do?

It's up to you if you want a planted tank or not, it can be a very expensive and long-winded hobby to follow.

You'll see examples online of amazing looking tanks, these tanks will probably be over a year in development. There's lots of material available online and on forums such as Aquariumadvice. You'll need a substrate (I use Tropica), fertilisers and plants as a basis. Avoid high growth plants generally, otherwise you'll be forever maintaining it.

I'm not an expert in planted tanks, so hopefully someone else will chime in.

Here is an update of my tank before i change to a cichlid set up.
