my plants are dying

Hi All,

I posted these pics previously to try and figure out what type of plants these are. Still busy with my fishless cycle but they don't look that happy anymore. Some leaves have gone brown.

Did I do something wrong? I planted them directly in the coarse gravel.
Perhaps its not liking the ammonia Im adding everyday, Im already on day 25.

Should I leave them in?

Any ideas for other plants I can get that are not high maintenance. I have a small 8g tank.

What is the lighting and bulbs your using and how long are you running them daily?
