Hey drewbie, I was just looking at some plant care things because i'm sorta new to this whole plant thing as well. And I noticed that they your nitrate is not the right level for your plants it will create black spots on your plants leaves. You might want to do some research on your plants and see what nitrate they require.

hi,
i think you need more lighthing.
14watts for a 20 gallon planted tank isnt enough.
you need one more 14 watt light to promote enough Photosynthensis for a 20 gallon.(i have a 20 gallon tank with 96 watts because my tank is completely full of plants. but with that much of lighting i have, i know how to use it proper.)
and low lighting doesnt really work with CO2.
inorder for have the full advantage of CO2, you need strong lighting...

i shouldnt worry about your problem. its not anything problematic on else you have several leaves that are completely dying.
but i would consider getting a Fertizilier because it has essential
Nutrients in order for plants to grow properly.(i suggest MASTER GROW FERTIZILIER).

you see CO2+LIGHTING+FERTIZILIER they all work together.
well good luck.
take care.

That's not true, all lighting levels benefit from CO2. Basically anything other than Low light people should consider a good CO2 system before anything else. I was trying to resist this but I now have pressurized CO2 on mine, plants are doing much better even with lower medium lighting.

Here is a very good article, there are 4 parts at the bottom:
Tropica

As for the OP, test your nitrates, if you dont have a fully stocked tank or its newly setup then your plants are missing nutrients.

Also you could use more light, like sldp99 said, but 40w of good lighting will be plenty or double what you have.

What exactly are you using for your "CO2 injection"??
and what are your CO2 levels? are they stable?
