I got a new 10 gallon tank for Christmas (WOOT!) and went out to blow some money on fish. I came home with a dalmatian molly and a guppy that both looked to be pregnant.

Here's pictures of them on January 2nd, sorry for the poor quality

I noticed the other day that the molly seemed so have gotten skinnier, but I couldn't find any fry, and she hadn't gotten any fatter than the previous picture. Is there an explanation for this? (Pics on her from Jan 6th)

Also, here is a picture of my single molly fry from my 2.5 gallon tank. He's about .5 inches long. I wanted to move a fish or two from my 10 gallon in with him. How long should i wait/ Any suggestions on which fish?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm new at this >.<

I would wait until the fry gets big enough to not be eaten by any other fish. Right now, he looks to be way too tiny to be moved in the 10 g

Okay!
Any suggestions for the guppy's pregnancy? Do you know what's going on with my molly?

I have never seen what a "pregnant" guppy looks like. But it does kinda look to be to me. Id just wait with that and see if anything pops out! Lol

As for the Molly, it does look slightly skinnier than the first picture. Are you sure you can't see any fry? If not, it probably was not "pregnant".

Hi and welcome!
The guppy does look pregnant. You can see the gravid spot (black patch at back of stomach).
Can I ask if you cycled your tank before adding your fish?
Do you own a test kit?
What other fish do you have in your tank?
Mollies aren't really suitable for 10g tanks because they get too big and poop a lot.

I'm rather new to fish keeping >.< What is cycling?
I got the kit for the 10 gallon and set up the filter/added water.

I have 5 guppies, 6 mollies, a cherry barb and 2 feeder sized goldfish.
I'm looking to re-home the goldfish, and I'm going to move a fish or two into my 2.5 gallon once the molly fry gets bigger.

I will link an article that contains important information on cycling. Cycling is the process of growing bacteria in the filter to process the ammonia your fish produce. Because you have fish you are doing a fish in cycle.

2.5g isn't big enough for any fish other than a single Betta or small fry. Unfortunately your tank is very overstocked. Just the 5 guppies fills your tank. Mollies don't belong in a 10g they need a 20g long tank or bigger I'm sorry. The two goldfish you have need a 30g tank minimum just for the two of them so the sooner you rehome them the better. The single cherry barb you have needs a school of 6 or more of their own kind.

Any questions don't be afraid to ask!

I think the barb needs a bigger tank too. You are now doing a fish in cycle, which requires daily water changes and tests. 10 gallons really don't have many options for fish, though. We will be glad to answer any more questions.

Are you sure that fry is a molly? Doesn't look like any molly fry I've ever seen, the tail is too rounded and his body looks too long. Sure it isn't a guppy?

I have to agree. That fry is definitely a guppy.

I was assuming it was a molly since at the time I had a female molly who had 40 fry a couple months before and then I found this guy and 4 others. I did have one female guppy at the time, but she didn't appear pregnant, I haven't noticed a weight change in all the time I've had her.

I guess I'll try to find somewhere for my mollies to go :( Gonna miss those guys

I'm in the process of reading it, I'll ask if I have questions

Thanks to everyone for the help! :)

Also~ For those interested in the fry, It had to have been the female guppy in the background of the 2nd guppy photo (she was the only female i had at the time)

All of those fish need to be rehomed to a 30g tank. Minus the gold fish. Take the gold fish back. They need a 30 gallon tank for each gold fish. The filter you have now can't handle a bio-load that big. Most ppl don't know but mollys get about 5 inches long. The pet stores don't tell you.any of this.

In my 110g tank I have 4 fish. 2 Oscars, 1 Jack, and a sailfin pleco and my pump is pushing 1000 gallons per hour.

Your pump only does about 50 gallons per hour

Okay, thanks! I'll look into conning some of my fish off onto my friends that have bigger tanks, lol
