Need help!

I have a 55g tank and trying to get a good ph lvl. I tested it a week ago and it was 8.5. I bought proper ph and ph down but the don't seem to work! I mean it'll go down to about 7.6-7.8 but then it goes right back up. I don't know what to do!

Tell us more. Is the tank cycled? Are there fish in it?

What are your readings?

You shouldn't EVER have to use a product to change your pH. If you try to change it with fish in there, your fish could die. They are sensitive to extreme changes in pH levels.

No fish but the ph is really high for the fish I want. I want the ph lvl to be around 7.5 or lower

How did you cycle it?

What species are you planning on keeping?

Usually, pH will not settle down until the tank is cycled completely.

Are you adding any other chemicals to the tank?
