Aquarium Advice Addict
Day 1, 10/23/04
Hi all,
I recently bought a 30 gallon cube tank from a friend. It's brand new (she didn't have enough time to start or maintain it), and it's a beautiful thing. Its measurements are 18.5"W*20"L*21.5"H (alright, not quite a cube...). It is acrylic (finally, an acrylic tank!!) with rounded edges, has a black background and a really nice black overflow filtration system.
I selected a location for the tank (my study) and have filled it with water and eco-complete... and a couple of snails and biowheels to start the biological filtration going... Right now the water is cloudy and the air bubbles are still stuck to the sides of the tank from when I filled it up.
Getting this tank just right will be a long process. I need to find the perfect piece of driftwood, the perfect fish (I'm going to make it an all-killifish tank, I think), and the perfect plants. Though I have a fair amount of light on the tank (96 Watts), I don't think the plants will be particularly special. I anticipate java fern and anubias species, and perhaps trying to cover the ground with a short sword or val plant.
Here are a few pictures. I doesn't look very special yet, but it really will! Thanks for looking. I hope to make you all proud when it's finished!
