Um, I think you're overstocked. The clown loaches can get very large(10"+) and should be in at least a 120 gal, plus they do better in groups of 5. If you returned those your tank wouldn't be overstocked. What size are they now? If they are still small you MIGHT be able keep them until they start growing and if you were going to upgrade the tank size but I"m not sure how fast they grow.

What filter do you have on the tank?

Also you mentioned that you just got fish. How long was the tank setup before and did you cycle it first (with ammonia or shrimp etc? Letting it run doesn't cycle it regardless of what the fish store said). Do you have a test kit? You might want to read these:

I just learned about cycling but I already have fish. What now?!

Good luck!

I used some old bio wheels in my filter to kick start my system for several weeks until all all my numbers came within range. With the clown loaches I went with the minimum number recommended of 3 due to the fact that I have the minimum sized tank recommend for this fish as they can get up to 8". As this is just the first and smallest of the tanks to come and they are not even 1/2" as of yet, and I hope to have them for many years to come. I appreciate the links lots of great info in there, I've saved the link so that I can keep referring to it.

they can get over a foot and need like a 120. not a 55

I'll just have to make sure that my next tank is at least a 120 gal so when they get that big I can move them over. That's why I post this on here so I can get this info thanks peoples.
