My husband and I have recently been given a 55gal tank. We brought it home last night and are wicked excited. We are also upgrading our son's 10gal to a 55gal for his birthday, we are all set and know what we are going to do with that one.

We are trying to decide on what FW fish to put into it. We do know that we want white sand for our substrate. My husband is an artist and for him it's more about the look than the function. So I let him pick the substrate and I pick the fish.

Now I can't decide what I want. I like angels but also like Yellow Labs.

Would like to hear what everyone thinks.

Some fish that will actively churn your sand would be good. Smaller eartheaters, various catfish (I prefer Hoplo cats but that's just me). A Spotted Climbing Perch (ctenopoma acutirostre) can be a great addition if there's enough places to hide, but would mean you'd need to keep away from fish small enough to put in its mouth.

Keyhole cichlids are also quite charming and friendly unless defending their spawning territory.

I think Boesmani rainbows and glass cats are awesome in a 55 :)
