We just had a week away in Robe on the Limestone Coast (great beaches and wine). There are lots and lots of really interesting rocks. My beautiful girlfriend and I came across a large (and heavy) piece of limestone that we thought would look great in our African cichlid tank.
It has visible shell grit embedded and is quite crumbly in places. It has been weathered with lots of nooks and crannies. I wanted to have it standing upright, it is quite statuesque. It was just too tall to fit in the tank..... so it had to be laid on its side. Upon closer inspection it appears to have a piece of fossilized tree root in the centre of it. The root is a lighter colour and you can see the remnents of the twisting smaller roots on the outer of the rock. The main bit of the root is quite straight the photos show it up well.
I found this piece of rock interesting so posted here rather than the cichlid forum.
