Okey dokey here we go:

Is your tank cycled at all?

I personally love live plants. My favorites are amazon swords and anubias.

I have always used gravel but I am going to try sand in my new tank. I will say I have never have had issues with gravel.

You need a filter and a heater.

Rocks and decor are up to you. For my mom's tank(she chooses the fish and I have to maintain it) I just went to a local river and picked up a big rock and some driftwood then sterilized them. The other way is to shove your money into the mouth of a big box store if you don't have a local store and buy cheap fake stuff.

I like live plants, and I use gravel. You might want a small cave or something like that for the fish to hide in to feel secure. You do need a heater and filter like ^ said.
