I am new to the nano tank scene, I have a tank that is 30in long 12in high and about 8in wide. I am looking for advise on what to use, I have a hang on filter that I am going to use but am looking for powerhead and anything else I may need. I would like to get fish eventually once everything is set.

From the measurements you gave, it looks like you're at about 12.5 Gallons. As far as powerheads, you could go with one Hydor Koralia 240 which should provide good flow along with the return from your hob filter. You will also need a thermometer to monitor temps, heater, lighting, substrate, salt, and either a hydrometer or refractometer to make sure your salinity is where it needs to be when you make water.
