Hey guys!

So, I'm totally new to the planting of aquariums. I've -always- done fake plants; no need for special feedings/treatments/worrying about fish eating them/snails/decay/water parameters, etc.

But I want to set up a 2.5 gallon in my room for a betta. And I was contemplating trying my hand at planting, because I really, really dislike plastic plants with a betta. Their fins always seem to get ragged on them. :(

So, my main question is: Is a 2.5 gal a good or a bad idea for trying a planted tank, or is this better off in a much bigger tank?

TIA.

It could work in a 2.5 gallon, but maintenance is much more time consuming. It is also easier to get algae blooms in smaller tanks because nutrients build up quicker. So, being a first timer, I would go with a 5 gallon or larger tank.

The Fluval in the link is essentially a betta heaven when you see them kept in 1 gallon and smaller tanks. That is a sad sight.
