Hi Im New to all this
I have a Trigon 190 and have just filled it and added 2-3 inches of silica sand. Only after i did this i read that i should of rinsed the sand. Do i have to enpty it all or half or third or will it be cleaned by filter?
My Filter is a aquael unifilter 1000 uv is this adqueate?
Also i have a 200w heater is this adequate for this size tank?

Any help appriecaited.

Thanks :fish2:

I tried with sand before and without a good wash the water just wouldnt stay clean. As soon as anything touched it there would be a massive cloud all over the tank. If you can i would empty and wash. And once you think its washed, wash it some more. You also wouldnt want all that sand getting in your filter and ruining your new setup.

I found that a gravel vac is an excellent way to remove sand, especially something like silica sand. But yes, you do need to wash it thoroughly as it will cloud water like crazy.

You only make the mistake once lol
