New yellow sebae anemone

So my brother was very excited to show me his new yellow sebae anemone that he brought home yesterday, he was then very disappointed when he found out it's most likely dyed. I'd say there is a 99.9999% chance that it is dyed. It is very beautiful but will be even more difficult to keep alive since it has been dyed. Our LFS owner had no idea and was very apologetic, he will take it back for a full refund. I think we may keep it though and try to help it recover. If it stays bright yellow then maybe it will be the first ever known naturally bright yellow sebae

Just thought I'd post this so that anyone who is thinking of getting one realizes that this is not a natural color for the sebae anemone and the survival rate will be very low.

Here are some pictures of ours currently. If anyone has any advice of the best foods to feed him and how often to feed him then that would be appreciated. We fed him some squid today.

Unfortunately, that is not it's natural color. It was injected with dye. Good luck with it.

Yes i know that it is dyed, that is what the whole post is about lol.

But thanks for the links, they have some good information about caring for a bleached or dyed specimen.

one week update

Here is the anemone after one week, we have been feeding it half a cube of squid every other day, missed today though but did get the pics.

I think it looks less yellow, still lively though at least : )

if an anemone is injected with die can it slowly push the die out?

I don't know if they are injected or if they are just left to sit in some very dyed water for awhile, but if this anemone does recover it will lose all of the yellow dye and hopefully return to it's regular color.

Week two update

The anemone has moved so it is in a more difficult place to photograph unfortunately. Here's a few blurry shots though.

I hope so!! Yes, we have been feeding it squid, I think today I'll feed it some mysis though.

Cool, it's look'n great. When I feed mine sometimes I use a mysis and a cyclopeeze mixture but I switch it up alot with squid, clams and shrimp. Keep me posted.

Good to know! What kind of clams, just frozen from the pet store?

Yeah sometimes but I work at a quality control center for a seafood restaurant and I get my hands on all kinds of fresh fish and whatnot. But the stuff at the lfs I use that too

So this would be week four update I guess, kind of slacking here. This photo was taken two days ago on the 26th.

I forgot that we have an underwater camera so I got a little better of a shot.

Yes it's doing good so far! I've read that they should die around the 6 month mark though if it doesn't get it's brown/tan coloring back, so I still have a long way to go!

Looks healthy and seems to be more of its natuaral color which I like better then the yellow

What a beautiful anemone!! It's a shame about the dying of it. No wonder that you would be enticed to buy it. The yellow makes it irresistable. Sad, but I hope it returns to its normal color and makes it for him.

I guess some prefer blondes =-)

What I dont get is if doint this shortans life span why would someone do this I think that is animal crultey but it looks really cool
