Can someone please tell me why I have hairy brown stufff growing on one of my live rocks?

That's what I was thinking. But I also have a sponge that started off looking like that. Either way it's not a big deal. If it gets too bad get a few hermits or a crab or something.

Here is a pic. It's been up and running since 8/24/12 with cured live rock from a 2 year old saltwater reef tank. Got the rock from his refugium and tank. So I do not know if it means that's cycled or not.

My Nano cube has been running since 8/24/12. It has LS and LCR from an established 2 yrs old reef tank. Rocks came from his refugium and tank combined. So I do not know if that means its cycled. Here's the pic

Looks like diatoms. Even with live rock from a previous tank I would still cure it. Better safe than sorry.
