is there anything on the market that will help lower nitrate levels. like chemical or something..i cant really afford a ro unit so i have to use tap or sometimes bottled..but our nitrate levels are high in iowa...i use a seaclone protein skimmer and a fluval 304 with diffrent types of media in it..is there anything to do with the water i have to use..the fish seem ok with the high levels of nitrate but i know its not good. :?

never heard how well these things work but id think a good sand bed should help unless your water is really bad best to try to find a local reefer to sell you some ro water or find a store that sells it ! normally like 25 cent a gallon :)

You can also add a fuge to the system with macro algae.... they will absorb some of the nitrates......
