I have a freshwater tank that is cycling right now. It has no Ammonia and does have about 1 ppm of Nitrite as verified by API Nitrite test. The test is hard to read in this range and it could be anywhere between 0.5 and 2 ppm. The API test kit works in both fresh and salt water. I wondered if the Red Sea Nitrite test from there Nitrite/Nitrate test kit for Marine Aquariums would also read freshwater. I decided to test it myself. Unfortunately, it showed no color change at all.
I love Red Sea and they make awesome products and have been very good with answering questions and being pleasant too This product never said it worked with fresh water. I just wondered if it did.
