We just purchased a PUR water filtration system (countertop). I know it won't be as good as RO water, but will it be useable in a tank? (Just wondering for the future.)

The box says it reduces:

Lead
Asbestos
Cryptosporidium & Giardia
Lindane & Atrazine
Mercury
Cysts (the instructions say Cyst reduction)
Atrazine

(We got it on sale at Wal-Mart. We wanted one anyways, we did not buy it just for a fish tank. Thought it might be an added bonus!)

it won't hurt to use it in the tank, but since those are meant for drinking water, you'll tear thru a filter cartridge using it for tank filling...without a significant benefit.

The carbon won't get rid of all of the metals and chemicals that are found in drinking water. Like peely said, it's just carbon, so it would be like pouring your tap water through activated carbon into a bucket, adding salt and putting it in the tank. If you've got corals, i wouldn't reccomend it, but hey, what do i know?
