With our fist baby due any day now I am forced to look at things a bit more economically them I am used to doing. I just ordered a bunch of stuff from drsfostersmith.com in an effort to save money. When I actually calcuated the savings over my LFS I was amazed. Here is the breakdown...

On-lin:
Chemi-Pure (12pk) = $59.99
Poly Filter (3 pk) x2 = $35.58
Maxi-Jet 1200 x2 = $45.98
Shipping (2-4 business days) = $18.98
Total = $160.53

LFS:
Chemi-Pure x12 = $131.88
Ploy Filter x6 = $65.94
Maxi-Jet 1200 x2 = $83.98
Tax (6.8%) = $19.16
Total = $300.96

TOTAL SAVINGS = $140.43!!!

Granted, I would not buy in bulk at the LFS but for about 6-8mos worth of supplies (minus salt) that is pretty good. I have never done the math before but this hobby is exspensive enough, any way to save money is a good thing. I wish I would have done this two years ago. I found this interesting and just had to share.

1200's are anywhere from $28-$40 here at the stores in Memphis. Marinedepot - $19. My favorite difference are the powerheads at petco. Online at petco a Hagen 50 is $21, at the petco stores - $45.

It's rediculous. I understand LFS because they don't move the volume as online vendors, but Petco is just a ripoff sometimes.
