For black painted backgrounds, do you prefer glossy or flat black paint?

i just used black construction paper instead of painting because i change my mind so much loll, and yeah, definitely flat

I taped black construction paper on the back just in case I ever wanted to change my background. So in that case I'd say flat. Plus if you ever wanna take picture of your fish, the glossy might cause fits.

Should have just quoted you. Haha. I was writing mine when you posted.

Thanks for the replies, I was thinking flat anyway. This is really just a QT tank in a spare bedroom, but I still want it to look good.

It doesn't make a difference. The finish is for the paint's surface (with the air) not the side that adheres to the substrate. I work with acrylic on glass as an artist and the different finishes do not make a difference when viewed through the glass.

Sorry to jump in, but is it reccomended to paint a fully operational tank? I was gonna do it before the water and stuff went in but forgot. Will the fumes hurt my sw tank?

It should not be an issue unless you use a really strong paint. I use the acrylic paint from the craft section in wal-**rt so it is no different than doing crafts in the same room.
