pellets or flakes

is it okay to replace flakes completely with pellets. flakes seem to messy for my oscars. the eat half the flake, and mush the rest.

Yes, they will probably prefer the pellets anyway. I have found pellets to be much easier to feed/clean than flakes, especially with larger fish.
 
i agree ... pellets are really nice but some fish won't take them. If this happens to your oscars (very unlikely) just don't feed them for 3 or 4 days. that should get them more into eating the pellets. If not put some flakes in.
 
It's always a good idea to give your fish variety - as a treat, you could feed live or frozen foods to your oscar as well.
 
try to stay away from feeding your oscar human food. they are usually hard for the fish to digest, however they do appreciate a small earthworm or even feeder goldfish. the oscars are fun to watch as they chase the little fish.
