Phallichthys fairweatheri aka picotee livebearer

I've got some Phallichthys fairweatheri aka picotee livebearers. The female is developing spots on her belly. How long should I wait to put her in the breeder box? I want to save the fry and if she drops in the tank they'll be goners. I have half beaks in there too and they would love a snack.
