Phosphate Remover?

I was reading that I should have a phosphate remover in my canister filter. If this is true, how important is it. Thanks.
 
If your just doing fish only, phosphates won't bother your fish. It will however fuel nuisance algae growth. As long as you keep up on water changes, probably won't be an issue for you though.
